Los Potrillos in Santa Fe

The quintessential mexican place! You know that a restaurant is authentic if it's full of mexicans - we don't tolate bad food. Overall the atmosphere is very family friendly, with intimate tables, wonderful service, and the occasional birthday to which everyone will sing, "las mananitas" to you. I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for some authentic mexican food in Santa Fe.

First time there. Have passed it many times and they are always busy. Saw sign on front window that credit card machine was down, so I had to hit an ATM to get some cash first. Kind of an inconvenience. We got seated fairly quick. Cute interior, felt like we were in Mexico. Wife ordered margarita we she said was very good. I had a model especial. Chips and dips were brought to the table. Menu was huge with lots of items and pictures. It was hard to choose. My wife had the gorditas with meat, cheese rice. I had the grilled steak with cheese enchiladas. All of the food was very good, I just wish it was a little hotter (spicier). Will definitely return.

The mole sauce made in house is the best I've had by far. The gorditas are amazing, the enchiladas are great, and the ground beef stuffed green Chiles en Nogada is an amazing traditional dish.Even the chips and salsa and Mexican rice are way above the norm...rice has a bit of corn/carrots, and is not the deep red color, but a lighter hue that tastes fresher.This IS the best Mexican place in Santa Fe, hands down in my opinion. And everyone that I've brought here says the same thing!Be prepared to wait a little while for a table at prime time lunch/dinner hours. The locals know this is IT, and that's why it fills up frequently!

As the picture suggests - was dank. Knocked off a star because it's been 7 days and it's still in my system. Totally worth it though, if you're cool with that. Get a load of that chile nogala

First time eating here - just ate there because it is near the hotel where we were staying. Food was basic Mexican but VERY good. Good service too.

The service is better than most other places in town, quick and very friendly. The food is extraordinary. 1 of my 3 favorite places.

Pale, pork-colored shredded beef tacos covered with bruised and mostly brown avocado slices that the server and the floor manager did not remedy. The kitchen should have thrown away the avocado. Shredded beef wasn't great. Overcooked marinated skirt steak and shrimp. Oddly flavorless refried beans. Stale chips. This was last weekend. Previous time, the pork with pineapple was overcooked, dry and swimming in oil. Tasted like reheated pork. We gave them another chance, but Los Potrillos has declined.

Great service, food and margaritas! Our food came out quickly and was hot and delicious! Best chili relleno I've had in a long while! Salsa were perfect with great taste and just a bit of heat.

Authentic Mexican food. Our waitress was exceptional in every way, we had lots of questions. Warm vibe. Music fit the space and was in the background.

I really liked my breakfast here (machacado con huevo and coffee). As they say, they are proudly serving dishes and recipes from Mexico. Great service (quick, kind, professional). Delicious food. If nothing else come for the hot, fresh, thick corn tortillas made in house.

Food is always good, they just need a real hostess that acts like they authentically want your business. Not the manager or maybe the owner who ignores his potential customer who is waiting just to add their name to a list to be seated and is being passed over for guys who were rudely passed me to get their names on the list ahead of me. Please just let the women handle the customers, they are hard workers who don't make customers feel inferior.

I love this place. My coworkers and I have been going in regular basis for a couple of weeks. Before that I used to go with family and friends The food is good, the place is clean the prices are reasonable and the staff is very kind. Been coming here for years and probably will continue to do so.

Food was pretty expensive and everything was oddly sweet. Would recommend Pantry restaurant much more and it's really close.

Wow! Not your regular "Mexican food in the US" type of restaurant! This was AMAZING! Fresh, flavorful, homemade down to the corn tortillas! And the prices were fantastic for the area! The average price for a dinner entre with sides was $10-$15! You MUST make a stop! (We ordered ours for carry out, and they did a great job with this!)

Saw this place driving by with no knowledge of the history or previous reviews. We were hungry and took a chance. We loved the salsas while we waited. The Burrito a la brasa and flautas were delicious. Really enjoyed the flan too. The place was packed but we got a table after 5 minutes and they still served us quickly.

Excellent service and food! The vegetarian enchiladas were fabulous! Food was fresh, hot, and quickly served. Our waiter checked on us repeatedly. I can't say enough about the friendly, professional service!

Chilaquiles are very yummy. Also their Chile isn’t too spicy if you don’t like a lot of spicy.

Just walked in when we were looking for dinner. What a find! Food is outstanding. Fresh with great variety. I had gorditos with a mix of chicken and beef. Both were excellent, chicken was not dry at all. My wife had pork and pineapple tacos which were amazing. Service is good as well. It is worth driving here for a meal.

Presentation was nice. Environment is cramped and poorly lit. Food was okay but nothing to rave over. Being a New Mexico native I would describe this food as New Mexican Mexican food because it is not authentic mexican in my opinion.

If I could give them a zero I would! We went in and were asked for “papers” for our service dog? Then we were seated and I gave my dog a drink I brought in for her and she curled up quietly in my lap of the booth. She weighs about 40lbs and is a diabetic alert dog. I was then told she must be on the floor, which meant shoving her behind a large pedestal under the table or laying in the floor were the servers walk! We left! Learn the law! If she is not causing disruption you CAN NOT direct my service dog! She can not perform her function in the floor, she needs to be able to smell ketones you ignorant people!

Incredible food. Great service. I was told this is a real "locals spot". I would recommend eating here everyday of you can! Their margaritas are phenomenal, very large and not overly sweet like some places. I have never had better fajitas, which sounds insane because, how can you make fajitas even better?! I'm not sure, but they do! 🌮

Wonderful restaurant! The staff is amazing! The huevos los potrillos was incredible with homemade corn tortillas and delicious green chili.

Fantastic! This place is so flippin’ delicious. We’re passing through Santa Fe on our way back home to Austin, Tx. and stopped by this place for some curbside after reading the reviews. So glad we stopped here. Enchiladas with red sauce were amazing, as well as the gorditas. Definitely stop here!!

Tried Los Potrillos for the second time today. The food is fine, but the noise level is too high for me.The kitchen is mostly open to the dining area and the cooks sound like they're throwing dishes at each other. At both visits the combination of kitchen racket and loud patrons kept me from enjoying the experience.

I just love this place! It is really truly Mexican food. The service is great and the menu is full of authentic choices. Breakfast is a must you here as well. House Margaritas are so so but there are other drink options that may be better.

This time i had this plate called molcajete relleno de camarones, it had a good flavor but was really greasy. Decorations are nice and and they have a tv to watch your sports, if you're interested on them. Horchata is very good!

If you like shrimp they have huge selection of dishes.

We eat here all the time. ABSOLUTELY the best Mexican food not only in Santa Fe but anywhere we've been. Very AUTHENTIC. The majority of clientele on any given day is Mexican/Hispanic. Unlike all the "commercial" Mexican places where most everything tastes alike this food is special!

Was here in Santa Fe on a mini vacation with the wife and she found this place to eat. Was really good food and great atmosphere. All the windows have potato sacks for curtains. And lots of other great things hanging around the restaurant.

Centrally located as you're coming into downtown Santa Fe with a good sized parking lot. The restaurant is comfortable and the wait was not bad. The food was great and the portions were very good. I noticed a large amount of locals in the place and for me that's always a good sign. We will stop here again!
